Overview

This bilingual collection of Aldo Vianello's poems draws on early translations by Richard Burns from Vianello's Time of a Flower (1968), with new versions by Peter Jay and Linda Lappin of poems from his later books. Vianello's exceptional lyric gift and his striking imagery shine through poems about many aspects of the human and natural conditions. Aldo Vianello was born in 1937 in Pellestrina, a fishing village in the Venetian lagoon. He has continued to live and write in Venice, the inspiration for many of his poems, and has published nineteen books. Richard Burns (Berengarten) lived in Venice from 1964-6. He is the author of many books of poetry and lives in Cambridge. Peter Jay founded Anvil Press in 1968. He has translated a variety of ancient and modern poets. Linda Lappin is an American writer and translator who holds an MFA in Poetry from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop. She has lived in Italy since 1978.
