As the first anthology of its kind to be published outside New Zealand in decades, this anthology showcases the country’s diverse literary scene through works from 20 different poets. Whether the authors were born in the 1960s, prominent in the 1980s, or part of a younger generation, they all represent the distinctive poetic voice coming out of modern New Zealand. Through intellectual inquiry, playing freely with lyric expectation, formal innovation, and a fiercely fond attention to the uniqueness of the country’s life and speech, all of the selections extend the boundaries of their medium.Author Biography
Robyn Marsack is the director of the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh. She has translated several French books, including The Way of the World and co-edited Intimate Expanses: XXV Scottish Poems 1978-2002. Andrew Johnstone is the editor of the International Herald Tribune in Paris, the editor of Moonlight: New Zealand Poems on Death and Dying, and author of How to Talk and Sol. He won the 1994 New Zealand Book Award for poetry.
